At Pink Pearl Gymnastics we know lots of our students could use some help with their School work. We offer Tutoring for our students. Pink pearl Gymnastics has offered a Summer Bridge program (Tutoring style work) for the past few years and have had great success in helping our students not only, catch up on their last grade finished but to get ahead on their new grade. Students all reported having very easy first quarter and sometimes second quarter grading periods where they were on top of their work. The tutoring work we offered through our homeschool style curriculum really was beneficial to those who attended.
Pink Pearl Gymnastics now offers a Gymnastics + Tutoring option for our parents. Here is the latest flyer where we offer 3 hours hosting your student; 1 hour of gymnastics and 2 hours of tutoring Math, Reading, and Writing or any number of subjects your child may need help with.
Tutoring absolutely works. At Pink Pearl Gymnastics we have solid evidence that it works; we have happy students and parents to back our assessments up as well. We also looked further into the subject of Tutoring and found online professionals that back up our own research. The Government commissioned a study That was specific in nature for reading but it also even affirmed non professional teachers helping with reading can make a difference. Our own research and personal family experience show that students who excel at reading can more often then not even learn on their own. In fact a very prominent homeschool study program/curriculum is based on students learning through self teaching and assistance from a teacher/parent.
A term coined in this article is really about finding a small group tutoring where classes are small and the teaching is focused. Tutoring at Pink Pearl Gymnastics is designed for small number of students and is focused on finding and fixing areas where students need the most help. We focus on areas with the most impact of future learning. The tutoring program needs to focus on individual student’s ability and motivation. As student learn or re-learn skills they develop confidence and confidence leads to more learning.
During Pink Pearl Gymnastics summer bridge program one of the biggest take-aways for us and the parents was how important confidence was to learning. So many of our kids today are afraid to ask for help. They struggle and nobody notices. If nobody notices and they still move on to the next grade; we simply teach our students to be quiet and move-on. In reality, when we helped our students individually understand what they were supposed to learn (especially in reading comprehension) the looks of joy, confidence, and a desire for more was worth every moment of time teaching.
Supporting our theme of Tutoring works . Another article as well our simple online searching we discovered Even schools Like Harvard are starting to admit they have 4.0 grade students enrolled who cannot do grade school math. Many Universities are needing to add basic math courses as well other subjects that should have been learned before college entry. Here is the Harvard Study that talks about the scary shortfalls our youth are dealing with. There have been lots of online news article as well as studies and analysis of grade/test result that show how far behind our young children are. So many cannot read, calculate, or know how to write, at their current grade level. Many multiple grades behind. Is there a fix?
Tutoring is a very good option that works. Yes it works and most kids can actually catch up faster than some would believe possible. Having said the key word faster, let me expound on that. Parents, are the biggest key to making any tutoring program work. A supportive parent, and of course supportive teachers will make a big difference. The final element for success is the children themselves must get past the embarrassment, and negative emotions associated with learning shortfalls. Again once kids start to “get it” they thirst for more.
A summer bridge program offers to bring our students current on their education. From preschoolers, kindergarten, and grade school students current on where they should be educationally, on grade level. We base this off of the Virginia Guidelines for learning objectives for each grade. Then once we know they are current we bring them into their next grade level topics so they are more prepared for the grade they will enter in September. Parents also get an opportunity to experience a private school environment with a unique outlook for educating children.
